Rachel Caine - Glass houses

I changed my mind about doing Richelle Mead's Frostbite (Sorry). However I will do it at some point.

I'm now doing the first book in The Morganville Vampires series. This book is called Glass houses. Yes it is another vampire book, I read a lot of these. Also I read books about Succubi, Angels, Ghosts, Werewolves and Witches. They are always so gripping, mostly because you wish you could be like them. Who doesn't?

In this series we follow the story of Claire Danvers, a sixteen year old girl who has gone to university early. Instead of going to a university she really wanted to go to her parents send her to Morganville, Texas as it is closer to home and they feel she is not quite old enough to go out into the world on her own, and lets face it at sixteen she probably isn't despite being gifted and intellectually advanced for her age.

We start the story with Claire recalling the day she moved into the Glass house. On this day someone had stolen her laundry. Why her laundry? I do not know, but I'd be pretty peeved. It turns out that a girl called Monica Morrell had thrown her laundry down the garbage chute. Bitch.

Monica doesn't like Claire because she happened to correct her about who was involved in WWII. To be honest I think anyone would have corrected her, everyone knows who was involved in WWII. Back to the story. After Claire talks herself round from crying she hears Monica talking to her. Monica, like any other gutless bully, doesn't work alone and has, surprise surprise, two back ups Gina and Jennifer. After a few minutes of teasing Claire, Gina and Monica make a comment about Jennifer which makes her take her anger out on Claire. When Claire defends herself Monica slaps her. She slaps her right back, letting go of the banister (stupid thing to do at the top of the stairs). Monica then punches her, and as she tries to regain her balance Gina pushes her backwards and Claire falls down the stairs backwards. Not satisfied with this, a murder attempt, Monica then threatens to give Claire whats coming to her later that night. Claire picks herself up and take the advice of a passer by, Erica, to go to the "quack shack" and get herself checked out.

So after all this Claire decides not to go back to the university dorm and check out an ad for a wanted room mate. She sits down outside the house and cries. A girl introduces herself, Eve, and is about the only nice person she has met. Eve invites her into the house and shows her around trying to get her to stay. In the house she meets a guy, Shane (quite a nice guy, good looking too) and he's really nice to her and gets her some food. Eve tells her what goes on around the house. They get to talking about Michael (the other guy in the house, who sleeps days) and Eve mentions she called him a vampire once, and Claire thinks she's making a joke. But Eve insists the town is full of vampires. She then takes Claire up to her room and lets her go to sleep.

Through the book Claire learns more about the town and the vampires. She also has to try and avoid Monica as much as possible. While in town she makes an enemy of the vampires and now has to try and find a way to stay alive.

This book is very interesting, especially in the way the vampires keep control of the town. I recommend this to any reader.
